what is ukiyo-e?
Ukiyo-e is a form of art that blossomed in the Tokugawa period in Japan. To create this form of art, artists carved intricate designs into wood blocks, which they then covered in paint and stamped on a surface. The result of this process left either black-and-white or multicolored prints, which depicted lavish scenes from the "floating world" of courtesans and kabuki actors and actresses or stunning natural landscapes.
